Speaking Hawk

Each morning I step into the mew hallway to check on the birds, just to make sure everyone is looking healthy. I am often greeted by two noisy birds. Aldo trills away as he eagerly shows off his nest. Carson's greeting is harder to understand. She makes a sound something like a grumble or growl that makes me wish I had a hawk translator. Is she demanding food or just happy to see me? Could she be complaining that I'm 5 minutes later than usual or insisting that I leave her alone? I try not to anthropomorphize too much. Instead, her strange sounds make me smile and I just tell her, "Whatever you're saying, I hear ya."
