Shedding

At first glance, I had the ridiculous thought that Scuba had grown a fifth leg.

On further inspection, I realized it was just a piece of shed skin hanging off the base of his tail. Later I found him submerged in his water dish, soaking his thin skin so it would peel off more easily.


(Fun side note: While salamanders don't spontaneously grow new limbs, they can regenerate lost limbs! The folks at Snake Discovery documented this process with a salamander they found after it's leg was bitten off by a dog:
