I learned the hard way this week why you're not supposed to put wet leather in the microwave.
After the weekly application of Jess Grease leather conditioner, I put Aldo's jesses into the microwave and set the timer for 6 seconds. Just a short time in the microwave warms the leather to help the conditioner soak in better. I watched carefully as the plate inside started to spin, then yelped when I saw unexpected bubbling. I wrenched the door open quickly to find a sizzling piece of leather. I hadn't realized that the jess was still wet when I applied the grease, and that trapped water was released under the microwave's power.
Since I knew the jess was ruined anyway, I put it back in the microwave and watched as bubbles appeared along the whole length. I ended up with a stiff piece of leather less than half the size of the original. Next time, I'll be sure to let leather dry overnight before sticking it in the microwave!
