I most often think of "gaze stabilization" with falcons. They have the impressive ability to hold their head in place while their body shifts, allowing them to keep a laser focus on their prey. It is especially useful while hovering, another skill that kestrels excel at. But other birds can do this, too. A hawk perched in a tree also needs to keep her focus if the branch is moving in the breeze. Carson our Red-tailed Hawk demonstrated her gaze stabilization while maintaining her focus on mysterious noises in the bushes:
