Feeding Time

For Aldo the American Kestrel, a meal can last a few hours. He picks small pieces and eats a bit of his mouse, then caches the rest in a safe corner for later. His food keeps him busy for much of the day.


Our larger birds, on the other hand, can swallow their whole diet in one sitting. So to make things a little more interesting, Carson the Red-tailed Hawk often gets her food delivered in an enrichment item. This meal inside a toilet paper tube turns a 2 minute meal into a 10 minute activity.
