Our raptor flock is growing! We were excited to welcome a Great Horned Owl to our education team this week.
This four-year-old bird hatched in Ohio and sustained a wing injury that left him permanently injured and non-releasable. After a few months at The Raptor Center in St. Paul, he has found a permanent home with us at the Museum. He is quickly settling into his mew and will soon begin focused training with Naturalist Haley.
Owls tend to take their time building trust with their trainers, so it may be a while before he is ready to meet people. In the meantime, he needs a name and we would love to hear your suggestions! Email Haley with your ideas.
Keep in mind that our animal ambassador names should reflect their role as educators and conservation messengers. Great names would highlight Great Horned Owl characteristics or habits, or honor conservationists that have helped preserve the environment. Our other raptor residents, Aldo and Carson, were named after Aldo Leopold and Rachel Carson, conservationists that changed the way we think about nature.
